Directions to the Inn by Public/Other Transportation:
From San Francisco International Airport:
Take the free SkyTrain that circles the airport to the International terminal that has the BART stop. Descend to the BART (BayAreaRapidTransit) station. Purchase an electronic ticket from the vending machine and enter the turnstile with the ticket. Keep the ticket handy, as you will need to use the same ticket to exit at the 24th Street stop, where it will determine the distance you travelled and the fare you owe. If you have paid the full fare, it will keep the ticket and open the turnstile so you may exit. If you have put more money than the fare, it will return the ticket to you with the balance available. Note that the trains run on average every 15 minutes until midnight. During rush hour, it may run more frequently, and during off peak times it may run more slowly. The exact time of the ride is 24 minutes to our closest station at "24th Street". If you exit at the next station, "16th Street" the fare is more.
Once you exit the station on the surface, you may walk east along 24th Street, (it is the side that has the McDonald's, if you are walking uphill on 24th Street you are going west, the opposite direction). Walk east on 24th Street for two blocks to South Van Ness Avenue. Turn left onto South Van Ness and walk 3.5 blocks to No. 943. It will be on the right hand side of the street, halfway between 21st and 20th Street. Note that if you have lots of luggage, especially if you have to carry it, those four blocks can be a long trip. Sometimes you may find a taxi at the station, but note that it is a very short trip for them so you may wish to tip a little extra.
You may also take a taxi from San Francisco International Airport and the fare will vary depending on time and traffic. A 15-minute trip will cost approximately $50.
There are also shuttle vans, ranging in price from $12 to $18, depending on different companies. Some will give you a discount if there is more than one person going to the same address or if you explain that we are an Inn/Hotel and not a residence.
The BART (BayAreaRapidTransit) train will bring you from downtown. Once you arrive at 24th Street, see above for the directions for BART from the airport. Our closest station is "24th Street".
San Francisco's Municipal System of Public Transportation:
You may arrive by either the No. 14 Mission bus from downtown, or the No. 49 Van Ness bus from Fisherman's Wharf. The closest stop is on Mission and 20th Streets. Exit the bus at 20th Street and turn east onto 20th Street, walk two blocks to South Van Ness, cross the street and turn right. We are a few buildings up the street at number 943 South Van Ness Avenue. You will see huge numbers over the door. You must have the exact fare to ride the bus as the driver does not handle money or make change. Coins and $1 bills are okay. Besides accepting cash fares, our Muni system also has a pass card called Clipper sold at many stores, such as Walgreens and in the Muni stations, and you may also check with the Tourist Office at the Powell Street Station for a one day, three day or seven day special tourist 'passport'.
From Oakland International Airport:
Take BART's Oakland Airport connector train to the Coliseum BART Station and transfer to a San Francisco train and get off at the 24th Street Station. Check times on the BART website.
