The Area

Mission Dolores

Inn San Francisco is ideally located in the sunniest part of the city, near Mission Dolores and many San Francisco attractions. This area was historically full of small lakes, rivers, and marshes and home to several tribes of Native Americans, then came the Spanish Franciscan Friars, who chose our neighborhood to build their first mission. Originally the mission was built of wood and destroyed by fire, so in 1791 the Friars built a more permanent structure of adobe brick. The Mission still stands today, located about eight blocks from our San Francisco inn rooms on Dolores Street at 16th. Mission Dolores is the oldest building in San Francisco and has a small cemetery and museum with documents and relics from the city’s founding and early period.

The Mission Dolores area today is known as an energetic neighborhood with an extensive and wide variety of restaurants, small shops, boutiques, galleries, and colorful murals. Inn San Francisco is close to public transportation, drug stores, bookshops, ATMs, and grocery stores. We estimate that there are at least 140 places to eat or order food within ten blocks of the Inn – ask at the Front Desk for our local neighborhood map listing at least 75 restaurants and cafes.
