Most Photographed places in the San Francisco Bay Area

San Francisco is one of the most photographed cities in the world. From the Golden Gate Bridge to the colorful Painted Ladies, there are many iconic shots that even the most novice photographer seeks to capture. Grab your camera and discover the most photographed places in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Golden Gate Bridge

A list of the most photographed places in the San Francisco Bay Area wouldn’t be much of a list without a mention of the Golden Gate Bridge. This iconic landmark defines most any view in the city and is one of the best subjects to photograph, no matter the time of day. Capture it at sunset, with early morning fog, or at night with the twinkle of the city lights.

Dolores Park

Named after Mission Dolores, the first building in San Francisco, Dolores Park spans a large hillside that offers some of the best views of the city. Find lush green lawns, tall palm trees, and plenty of expansive city views from the park.

Painted Ladies

One of the most photographed places in the San Francisco Bay Area is the Painted Ladies. Named “Postcard Row,” the colorful Victorian houses that line streets at the corner of Hayes and Steiner Street are some of the best representations of homes from the Queen Anne era. The best time to photograph is a sunset when a nice glow ascends over the homes.

Coit Tower

Taken from a downtown building rooftop. San Francisco, California, USA.

It goes without saying that one of the best views of the city comes from the observation deck at Coit Tower. As one of the highest points in San Francisco, Coit Tower offers a 360-degree view of the city.

San Francisco cable cars

While not found in one particular place, the iconic San Francisco cable cars are some of the most photographed landmarks in San Francisco. The city’s cable cars were named a National Historic Landmark in 1964. There are currently 40 cars that service the city, making it easy to photograph from almost anywhere.

Lombard Street

As one of San Francisco’s most popular streets, Lombard Street is made famous by its winding, sharp curves – giving it its nickname of “the most crooked street in America.” Because of its unique layout, beautiful landscaping, and city views, Lombard Street is one of the most photographed places in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Cypress Tunnel

Step a bit outside the city skyline and visit the Cypress Tunnel at Point Reyes National Seashore. Walk through a band of cypress trees that create an encapsulating tunnel, making it impossible to take a bad photo. It is a true natural wonder that makes a great day trip from Inn San Francisco.
