Summer Events in San Francisco: 2018 Guide

North Beach Festival

As one of the largest street fairs in the city and considered the country’s original outdoor festival, the annual North Beach Festival is a great way to kick off summer. Taking place in Little Italy, this two-day event offers over 20 food vendors, live music, and over 100 art and craft vendors. The event is free to the public.

Pride Parade and Festival

Always the last weekend in June, the Pride Parade is one of the city’s largest annual events. Hosted in the Civic Center District, this event celebrates the LGBT community with live music, food and of course the Pride Parade, held on Sunday. The event is free to the public.

Haight Street Fair

Attend the Haight Street Fair and come see for yourself where the hippie movement began in the colorful and vibrant Haight Ashbury neighborhood. Spend the day walking through the historical streets with over 200 food, art, and craft vendors. Enjoy live music from the two main stages, with rotating performers throughout the day. The event is free to the public.

Fillmore Jazz Festival

Over 4th of July weekend, San Francisco hosts one of the largest jazz festivals in the country, the Fillmore Jazz Festival. As an all-day event on Saturday and Sunday, the festival takes over 12 blocks within the Pacific Heights District, while spectators can enjoy first-class food, drinks, and discover various arts and crafts from vendors around the U.S. The event is free to the public.

Fourth of July Fireworks and Celebration

Celebrate the birth of our Nation at one of the largest summer events in San Francisco, for the Fourth of July fireworks. Head out to the waterfront and enjoy live music at Fisherman’s Warf, various activities throughout the day, and of course a colorful firework display at night. The event is free to the public.

Sunday Streets

Throughout the summer months, locals and tourists alike can enjoy different outdoor activities at the Sunday Street events. Once a month, a district in the city blocks off part of its streets and hosts a variety of activities that can be enjoyed in the streets, car-free. Activities include free bike rentals, live music, and even dancing lessons.   

San Francisco Marathon

Whether you’re a runner or not, the San Francisco Marathon is a local tradition that is hard to miss. An event where the city streets come to life and show support for their fellow athletes. If choosing to participate in the event, they offer a choice of either the marathon, half marathon, or a 5K. So, grab your sneakers and either run with the crowd or cheer from the sidelines!

Outside Lands Music Festival

Calling all music lovers! Head, out to Golden Gate Park for the biggest music festival in San Francisco, the Outside Lands Music Festival. With three days of live music and up to 70 bands performing, this is a concert-goers dream. Get your tickets early, as this event always sells out.

Union Square Live

Most Wednesdays and Sundays Union Square will offer free dance, music, theater, and movies to the public throughout the summer months and into October. Popular events include Taiko Dojo drumming group and the Duniya Dance and Drum Company. Check their website for all scheduled events. All events are free to the public.
