The Best Places to View the Golden Gate Bridge

It’s true, no matter where you stand, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring sites in San Francisco. But some spots, in particular, are the best places to view the Golden Gate Bridge. A few of our favorites are listed below.

Baker Beach

Take in the rugged shoreline cliffs of The Presidio with the Golden Gate Bridge as the backdrop at Baker Beach. It’s the perfect blend of the natural surroundings of Mother Nature paired with the modern marvel of the Golden Gate Bridge. Note that Baker Beach is popular and can be quite crowded. Located on the south side of the bridge, access Baker Beach by way of Lincoln Avenue to Bowley, where you will find a parking lot.

It is also one of the best spots to view the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset

Marshall Beach

Marshall Beach makes the list for one of the best places to view the Golden Gate Bridge because of its seclusion. Less crowded than Baker Beach, Marshall Beach offers a similar natural landscape that Baker Beach does. Visitors are met with volcanic rock, sea cliffs, sandy shorelines, and crashing waves, making Marshall Beach a dream destination for photographers.

Fort Point

For the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge from below, head out to Fort Point. Take in the sights from underneath the bridge as you feel the waves of the sea crashing upon the shoreline. It’s a unique perspective of the bridge that allows for stunning views of its architecture and its sheer magnitude.

Crissy Field

Visit the public park of Crissy Field for one of the best places to vies the Golden Gate Bridge. With a waterfront location, Crissy Field offers an idyllic location for soaking up some sunshine and taking in beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hawk Hill

For a full bridge view with downtown San Francisco in the background, venture on up to Hawk Hill. Due to its high vantage point, Hawk Hill is the perfect spot to view the Golden Gate Bridge in all its glory. Hawk Hill is accessed from the north side of the bridge via Conzelman Road.

Battery Spencer

Also found on the north side of the bridge, Battery Spencer is another one of our top picks for the best places for views of the Golden Gate Bridge. As one of the most commercialized vantage points of the Golden Gate Bridge, it can be crowded, so it’s best to try and visit on an “off” day.

Torpedo Wharf

Just slightly north of Crissy Field lies Torpedo Wharf where, visitors are able to get out onto the ocean for views of the entire bridge – end to end. One of the best vantage points is with the wharf in the foreground and the bridge in the background.

Lands End

For a more distant view of the Golden Gate Bridge, but just as impressive, check out Lands End. Scenes of the rugged wilderness and wide-open sea are coupled with the distinct landmark of the bridge in the distance.
