Anniversary of the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906

April 18, is the anniversary of the famous San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906. Starting at 5:00 am at Lotta's Fountain at the corner of Market and Kearney streets, city officials, and attendees commemorate the fateful event that almost destroyed the remarkable City of San Francisco. Shortly after this event at Lotta's Fountain there is a separate event at the corner of Church and 20th Streets, where the San Francisco Fire Department pays tribute to the 'gold' painted fire hydrant that saved this neighborhood from the devastating fires that sweep the City in the next four days following the Earthquake. Period costumes are encouraged.
